Why MackTechs for MacBook Air Repair

Every week, MackTechs sees customers walk in with cracked or dead MacBook Airs after being told by another shop or by Apple that the only fix is a $700 top-case replacement. That has not been true for the M1 and M2 generations. The LCD panel can be unbonded and replaced on its own, which cuts the cost roughly in half. We have been doing this LCD-only repair on the A2179, the A2337 M1, the A2681 M2, the A3113 M3, and the new M4 Air since each one shipped. Start at our Mac repair hub if you want to see the full range of services we offer.

The MacBook Air is one of the most repair-hostile laptops Apple makes. The display is glued to the lid, the battery is glued to the top case, and the trackpad sits directly under the battery. We have the heat plates, suction tools, and adhesive remover needed to do all three jobs without warping the chassis. We also do component-level logic board work on Air models, replacing failed PMICs, blown SMC chips, and corroded charging circuits after liquid damage. Butterfly keyboard repairs on the 2018 and 2019 models are also part of our daily work. For general screen issues, see our MacBook screen repair page.

Every MacBook Air repair starts with a free diagnosis. You will know the exact problem and the exact price within 24 hours, and there is never a charge to find out. All repairs are backed by our 1-year warranty, with 90-day coverage on batteries. Walk into our Manayunk shop at 4329 Main Street, Philadelphia, or use our mail-in program with prepaid return shipping from anywhere in the US. If you need MacBook Pro service instead, our MacBook Pro repair page covers that line.

Common MacBook Air Problems We Fix

Most MacBook Air failures fall into one of four buckets: a cracked or dead LCD, a swollen battery, a butterfly-era keyboard issue, or liquid damage. The Apple Silicon Airs in particular have a glued display assembly that frustrates DIY repairs, which is why we have invested in the heat plates and tooling to do LCD-only swaps on the M1, M2, M3, and M4. The pre-2020 Intel Airs, especially the A1466 and A1932, are still very repairable and worth fixing if the cosmetic and battery condition are good. Bring it in or ship it for a free diagnosis and an honest answer about whether it is worth the repair.

  • Cracked LCD on M1, M2, M3, or M4 Air. We unbond the LCD panel from the lid and replace just the screen, which keeps the antenna, camera, and top case original. Saves about half the cost of a full assembly. See M2 MacBook Air LCD screen replacement for model-specific details.
  • A2179 Intel Air screen damage. The 2020 Intel Air is its own special case, and we have a dedicated repair process and pricing page for it. Visit A2179 MacBook Air screen repair for more.
  • Swollen or weak battery. The Air battery sits directly under the trackpad. A swollen pack will start clicking the trackpad on its own. We replace the cells and recalibrate. Battery replacements include a 90-day warranty.
  • Butterfly keyboard on 2018 and 2019 models. Sticky, repeating, or dead keys on the A1932. We replace the top-case keyboard assembly for a permanent fix.
  • Liquid or water damage. Bring it in unpowered. We disassemble, ultrasonic-clean the logic board, and replace any corroded components. Often recoverable on Air models if you act fast.
  • Will not turn on or dead Air. Usually a PMIC failure, a blown SMC chip, or liquid corrosion under the keyboard. We diagnose at the logic board level rather than swapping blind.
  • Charging port issues. On the 2018 and newer USB-C Airs, the charging board fails before the logic board does. We swap or repair the USB-C board independently. Other Mac line pages: MacBook Pro repair, iMac repair.

MacBook Air Repair FAQ

How much is a MacBook Air screen repair?
MacBook Air LCD-only replacement starts at $249 for M1, M2, M3, and M4 models. The exact price depends on the panel and the model year, and we will give you a firm quote within 24 hours of the free diagnosis. Replacing the entire display assembly, which includes the lid, antenna, camera, and panel, is more expensive but rarely necessary if the rest of the lid is intact. Call (215) 914-5775 or request a free quote.
Can you replace just the LCD panel on a MacBook Air?
Yes, this is one of our specialties. On the M1, M2, M3, and M4 MacBook Air, the LCD is bonded to the lid with adhesive, but it can be unbonded and replaced on its own. You keep the original lid, antenna, camera, and microphones, and you save several hundred dollars over a full assembly swap. The repair includes a 1-year warranty. Most LCD-only jobs are finished in 2 to 3 business days.
Do you fix MacBook Air water damage?
Yes. The most important thing you can do after a spill is to power the laptop OFF and bring it in unpowered. We disassemble the MacBook Air, ultrasonic-clean the logic board, and replace any corroded components before they fail later. Free diagnosis applies to liquid damage the same as anything else, and we will tell you honestly whether the laptop is worth saving. Call (215) 914-5775 or use our mail-in program.
How long does a MacBook Air battery replacement take?
Most MacBook Air battery replacements are completed in 1 to 2 business days. The battery is glued to the top case, so the job requires careful adhesive removal to avoid damaging the trackpad above. We replace the battery, recalibrate the system, and run a health check. Battery replacements are backed by a 90-day warranty. Walk-in or mail-in, both work, and both start with a free diagnosis.
Do you service M1, M2, M3, and M4 MacBook Air models?
Yes, we work on every Apple Silicon MacBook Air from the 2020 M1 through the new M4. That includes LCD-only screen replacement, battery service, USB-C charging board repair, and component-level logic board work. We also still service the Intel A1932, A2179, and A1466 models if your older Air can be saved. Bring it in or ship it for a free diagnosis.
