The M2 MacBook Air (A2681, released mid-2022) is Apples redesigned 13-inch Air with the flat-edge chassis and Liquid Retina display. We have been repairing them since launch. One of the more memorable jobs was a Starlight A2681 a customer brought in after their cat bit the top corner of the display mid Zoom call. The tiny teeth punched through every layer of the panel, but when we opened it up, the backlight layer underneath the LCD was intact, which meant a straight LCD-only swap restored the machine. On the A2681 we remove the bottom plate, disconnect the battery, separate the display assembly from the top case, place the assembly on a heat plate to soften the adhesive, remove the glass bezel, and lift the cracked LCD without damaging the fragile backlight sheets directly below it. Before reassembly we verify the backlight layer is dust-free and the webcam still works. Any dust trapped behind a newly bonded LCD will show up as a shadow against white backgrounds, so we take the extra time to clean every layer before sealing it down.
If the screen damage is severe enough that we cannot see anything on the built-in display during diagnosis, we hook the Air up to an external monitor through USB-C to verify the logic board and GPU are healthy before opening the laptop. That saves you from paying for an LCD swap on a machine with a deeper problem. Our M2 MacBook Air LCD Replacement Process
Every A2681 screen repair follows the same careful workflow.
- Free diagnosis. Verify the LCD is the fault, not the backlight layer, T-Con, or GPU. External-monitor test if the built-in display is unreadable.
- Quote in 24 hours. LCD-only is our default. Full display assembly only if the housing is dented or the backlight layer is also damaged.
- Disassemble. Remove the bottom plate, disconnect the battery, separate the display assembly from the chassis, and place the display on the heat plate.
- Swap the LCD. Remove the glass bezel, extract the cracked panel, clean the backlight sheets so nothing is trapped behind the new panel, and bond a new OEM-grade LCD with fresh adhesive.
- Test and reassemble. Connect, verify LCD and webcam function, run through every brightness level, reassemble, and final sanity check before pickup.
