Why Choose MackTechs for Mac Software Repair
Software repair has been part of every shop visit since we opened in 2014. Most broken Macs that come through our door are not actually broken in the hardware sense. They are stuck on the Apple logo at boot, cannot finish a macOS install, cannot see the SSD in Disk Utility, have a corrupted user account, or are dealing with adware and browser hijackers that the owner cannot remove. We have handled hundreds of these on every macOS version from El Capitan through the current macOS 26 Tahoe release.
Our diagnostic flow starts with Apple Diagnostics (Option-D at boot on Intel, hold power on Apple Silicon), Apple Service Toolkit where available, Disk Utility from Recovery Mode, and direct SSD health checks using smartctl and Apple internal health reporting. For Apple Silicon Macs we know the DFU revive and restore process using a second Mac and Apple Configurator 2. For Intel Macs we know how to install macOS over the network when Recovery Mode itself is broken. We can also pull data off a Mac that will not boot, including Apple Silicon Macs with sealed SSDs, by booting to Target Disk Mode on older models or by using a host Mac and the right cable on newer ones.
The most valuable thing we do is separate software faults from hardware faults reliably. If your Mac says stuck on Apple logo we figure out whether it is a corrupted macOS install (software fix), a failing SSD (hardware fix), or a logic board fault (microsoldering job). That diagnosis alone saves customers from paying for the wrong repair. Every Mac we work on includes a free diagnosis, a flat-rate quote before any work begins, and our 1-year warranty on the work performed. We never wipe a customer drive without explicit permission, and we always offer data preservation as the first step on any failing-disk scenario.
Mac Software Issues We Fix
These are the most common symptoms we see. Most are software-only fixes, some point to a failing SSD that needs to be replaced, and a few turn out to be hardware hiding behind a software-looking failure. The free diagnosis tells us which is which.
Stuck on Apple Logo
Most common software symptom. Corrupted system, broken APFS container, or a failing SSD. Free diagnosis tells us which.
Kernel Panic Loops
Mac restarts unexpectedly with a grey curtain or reboot warning. Usually a kernel extension, driver fault, or corrupted system file.
Will Not Boot Past Login
Mac reaches the login screen but cannot get to the desktop. Usually a corrupted user account or a problematic login item.
macOS Will Not Install
Recovery Mode errors, macOS could not be installed loops, or the installer cannot see the drive. Often an APFS container issue.
Slow After macOS Update
System is sluggish after a major update. Bloated indexes, full disk, third-party kexts, or a failing SSD approaching its wear limit.
Forgot Password / Locked Out
Lost the admin password, Apple ID recovery failed, or the Mac is stuck at an activation lock screen. We have legitimate recovery paths.
Adware and Browser Hijackers
Search Marquis, Bing redirects, fake your-Mac-is-infected popups, and persistent launch items. We remove all of it at the system level.
Migration Assistant Failed
Cannot move data from an old Mac to a new one. We run migration on the bench with direct-attached storage when Migration Assistant will not cooperate.
Our Mac Software Repair Process
Every software job starts with hardware verification because software symptoms often hide hardware faults. Once we know what we are dealing with, we follow the same careful workflow to preserve your data first and fix the underlying issue second. Most macOS repairs are completed within 1 to 3 business days. Every job includes our 1-year warranty on the work performed.
- Run Apple Diagnostics. Built-in hardware self-test (Option-D at boot on Intel Macs, hold power on Apple Silicon) rules out obvious hardware faults before we touch the software.
- Determine root cause. Corrupted macOS install, failing SSD, T2 or Secure Enclave fault, broken APFS container, bad NVRAM, third-party software conflict, malware, or hardware hiding as software.
- Back up data first. If there is any chance of needing to wipe the drive, we image your data to external storage before touching anything. Data preservation is always step one.
- Repair the OS. Depending on the root cause this could be First Aid in Disk Utility, a clean macOS reinstall over the existing data, a restore from Time Machine, a DFU revive on Apple Silicon, malware removal at the system level, or migrating your data to a fresh SSD.
- Verify. Boot to the desktop, confirm Wi-Fi, iCloud sign-in, FileVault state, and that your apps run cleanly before pickup.
Macs and macOS Versions We Service
We service every Intel and Apple Silicon Mac currently in the field, on every macOS version Apple still supports plus several older versions. If you are running something older than High Sierra we will still take a look, but parts and tools for pre-2012 Macs get harder to find every year.

| macOS 26 Tahoe | Yes | Current release |
| macOS 15 Sequoia | Yes | |
| macOS 14 Sonoma | Yes | |
| macOS 13 Ventura | Yes | |

Hardware: any MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook 12-inch, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, iMac Pro, or Mac Studio. If your Mac will not turn on at all and nothing lights up, see our Mac liquid damage repair page first because it is probably hardware. If your screen is the problem and not the software, see our MacBook screen repair page.
