Walk in to Manayunk

A failed hard drive is not a lost hard drive. Most of the drives that come into our Manayunk shop still have every file on them; the problem is getting to them safely. We log your drive, note the folders you need most, and ship it insured to our partnered recovery facility, where it's imaged sector by sector and the recovery is done from the copy so the original is never worked on twice. You approve a fixed price before any work starts, and if the files that matter to you can't be recovered, you owe nothing beyond the $100 diagnostic.

Failures we recover from

  • Deleted files and emptied trash
  • Accidental format or re-partition, "drive needs to be formatted" errors
  • Corrupted file systems, drives that show up as RAW or unreadable
  • Computers that won't boot but the drive spins normally
  • External drives and enclosures that stopped mounting (Seagate, WD, Toshiba, LaCie, G-Drive, Samsung)
  • Dead circuit boards, firmware faults, drives not detected at all
  • Clicking, beeping, not spinning, dropped drives (cleanroom head work)
  • Scratched platters and helium-sealed drives

What happens when you bring a drive in

  1. Same day in Manayunk: we check that the drive is safe to ship, log the failure you describe and the files you need, and pack it in anti-static material.
  2. Insured shipping to the lab. Diagnostic within 48 to 72 hours of arrival.
  3. Firm quote by phone or email. Nothing happens until you say yes.
  4. Recovery from a sector-by-sector image. Your original drive is never written to.
  5. Pickup in Manayunk or delivery by mail. We open the folders you care about with you: photos, documents, QuickBooks files, whatever it is. Recovered data is purged from the lab after delivery.

Business and RAID drives

Single business drives, server drives, NAS units and RAID arrays are all handled. Bring every drive from the array, in order if you can. If you're a Philadelphia business running without a tested backup, ask about our managed IT plans: the recovery you're paying for today is the backup you didn't have.

$499 is the starting price for a logical recovery on a hard drive. Larger drives and complex file-system damage cost more within the $499–$1,500 range; you'll know the exact number before we start.
Clicking, not spinning or dropped drives need cleanroom head work, $1,299–$2,500. The diagnostic tells us which, and you decide whether to proceed.
It's a hands-on assessment on professional imaging tools, not a quick look, and it produces the firm quote. It's credited toward your recovery if you proceed.
The lab recovers the folders you name and purges the data after delivery. We verify your key folders with you at pickup and don't browse beyond that.
Yes, as long as it's a different, working drive. Recovered data is never written back onto the failed drive.
